How Jesus Died For You

How Jesus Died For You

Read 55 Amazing Facts on Jesus Death

Below are facts on How Jesus Died For You. I do not think that we really understand how much Jesus did for us. Please share this post to spread the Good News of Jesus.

Crucifixion was invented by the Persians in 300 BC, and perfected by the Romans in 100 BC.

1. It is the most painful death ever invented by man and is where we get our term "excruciating."

2. It was reserved primarily for the most vicious of male criminals.

3. Jesus was stripped naked and His clothing divided by the Roman guards. This was in fulfillment of Psalm 22:18, "They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots."

4. The Crucifixion of Jesus guaranteed a horrific, slow, painful death.

5. Jesus' knees were flexed at about 45 degrees, and He was forced to bear His
weight with the muscles of His thigh, which is not an anatomical position which is possible to maintain for more than a few minutes without severe cramp in the muscles of the thigh and calf.

6. Jesus' weight was borne on His feet, with nails driven through them. As the strength of the muscles of Jesus' lower limbs tired, the weight of His body had to be transferred to His wrists, His arms, and His shoulders.

7. Within a few minutes of being placed on the Cross, Jesus' shoulders were dislocated. Minutes later Jesus' elbows and wrists became dislocated.

8. The result of these upper limb dislocations is that His arms were 9 inches longer than normal, as clearly shown on the Shroud.

9. In addition prophecy was fulfilled in Psalm 22:14, "I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint."

10. After Jesus' wrists, elbows, and shoulders were dislocated, the weight of His body on his upper limbs caused traction forces on the Pectoralis Major muscles of His chest wall.

See Amazing Pictures of Jesus On Pinterest
11. These traction forces caused His rib cage to be pulled upwards and outwards, in a most unnatural state. His chest wall was permanently in a position of maximal respiratory inspiration. In order to exhale, Jesus was physiologically required to force His body.

12. In order to breathe out, Jesus had to push down on the nails in His feet to raise His body, and allow His rib cage to move downwards and inwards to expire air from His lungs.

13. His lungs were in a resting position of constant maximum inspiration. Crucifixion is a medical catastrophe.

14. The problem was that Jesus could not easily push down on the nails in His feet because the muscles of His legs, bent at 45 degrees, were extremely fatigued, in severe cramp, and in an anatomically compromised position.

15. Unlike all Hollywood movies about the Crucifixion, the victim was extremely active. The crucified victim was physiologically forced to move up and down the cross, a distance of about 12 inches, in order to breathe.

16. The process of respiration caused excruciating pain, mixed with the absolute terror of asphyxiation.

17. As the six hours of the Crucifixion wore on, Jesus was less and less able to bear His weight on His legs, as His thigh and calf muscles became increasingly exhausted. There was increasing dislocation of His wrists, elbows and shoulders, and further elevation of His chest wall, making His breathing more and more difficult. Within minutes of crucifixion Jesus became severely dyspnoeic (short of breath).

18. His movements up and down the Cross to breathe caused excruciating pain in His wrist, His feet, and His dislocated elbows and shoulders.

19. The movements became less frequent as Jesus became increasingly exhausted, but the terror of imminent death by asphyxiation forced Him to continue in His efforts to breathe.

20. Jesus' lower limb muscles developed excruciating cramp from the effort of pushing down on His legs, to raise His body, so that He could breathe out, in their anatomically compromised position.

21. The pain from His two shattered median nerves in His wrists exploded with every movement.

22. Jesus was covered in blood and sweat.

23. The blood was a result of the Scourging that nearly killed Him, and the sweat as a result of His violent involuntary attempts to effort to expire air from His lungs. Throughout all this He was completely naked, and the leaders of the Jews, the crowds, and the thieves on both sides of Him were jeering, swearing and laughing at Him. In addition, Jesus' own mother was watching.

24. Physiologically, Jesus' body was undergoing a series of catastrophic and terminal events.

25. Because Jesus could not maintain adequate ventilation of His lungs, He was now in a state of hypo-ventilation (inadequate ventilation).

26. His blood oxygen level began to fall, and He developed Hypoxia (low blood oxygen). In addition, because of His restricted respiratory movements, His blood carbon dioxide (CO2) level began to rise, a condition known as Hypercritical.

27. This rising CO2 level stimulated His heart to beat faster in order to increase the delivery of oxygen, and the removal of CO2.

28. The Respiratory Center in Jesus' brain sent urgent messages to his lungs to breathe faster, and Jesus began to pant.

29. Jesus' physiological reflexes demanded that He took deeper breaths, and He involuntarily moved up and down the Cross much faster, despite the excruciating pain. The agonizing movements spontaneously started several times a minute, to the delight of the crowd who jeered Him, the Roman soldiers, and the Sanhedrin.

30. However, due to the nailing of Jesus to the Cross and His increasing exhaustion, He was unable to provide more oxygen to His oxygen starved body.

31. The twin forces of Hypoxia (too little oxygen) and Hypercapnia (too much CO2) caused His heart to beat faster and faster, and Jesus developed Tachycardia.

32. Jesus' heart beat faster and faster, and His pulse rate was probably about 220 beats/minute, the maximum normally sustainable.

33. Jesus had drunk nothing for 15 hours, since 6 pm the previous evening. Jesus had endured a scourging which nearly killed Him.

34. He was bleeding from all over His body following the Scourging, the crown of thorns, the nails in His wrists and feet, and the lacerations following His beatings and falls.

35. Jesus was already very dehydrated, and His blood pressure fell alarmingly.

36. His blood pressure was probably about 80/50.

37. He was in First Degree Shock, with Hypovolaemia (low blood volume), Tachycardia (excessively fast Heart Rate), Tachypnoea (excessively fast Respiratory Rate), and Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

38. By about noon Jesus' heart probably began to fail.

39. Jesus' lungs probably began to fill up with Pulmonary Oedema.

40. This only served to exacerbate His breathing, which was already severely compromised.

41. Jesus was in Heart Failure and Respiratory Failure.

42. Jesus said, "I thirst" because His body was crying out for fluids.

43. Jesus was in desperate need of an intravenous infusion of blood and plasma to save His life

44. Jesus could not breathe properly and was slowly suffocating to death.

45. At this stage Jesus probably developed a Haemopericardium.

46. Plasma and blood gathered in the space around His heart, called the Pericardium.

47. This fluid around His heart caused Cardiac Tamponade (fluid around His heart, which prevented Jesus' heart from beating properly).

48. Because of the increasing physiological demands on Jesus' heart, and the advanced state of Haemopericardium, Jesus probably eventually sustained Cardiac Rupture. His heart literally burst. This was probably the cause of His death.

49. To slow the process of death the soldiers put a small wooden seat on the Cross, which would allow Jesus the "privilege" of bearing His weight on his sacrum.

50. The effect of this was that it could take up to nine days to die on a Cross.

51. When the Romans wanted to expedite death they would simply break the legs of the victim, causing the victim to suffocate in a matter of minutes. This was called Crucifragrum.

52. At three o'clock in the afternoon Jesus said, "Tetelastai," meaning, "It is finished." At that moment, He gave up His Spirit, and He died.

53. When the soldiers came to Jesus to break His legs, He was already dead. Not a bone of His body was broken, in fulfillment of prophecy (above).

54. Jesus died after six hours of the most excruciating and terrifying torture ever invented.

55. Jesus died so that ordinary people like you and me could go to Heaven.

All He Asks You is to Love Him, Your Lord, Your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind!! Can't you even do this for Him?

  1. Jesus did not die on a cross, the word cross was added on the bible, the original Greek word was stake so his hands were both up.

If you do your research on roman executions, you can confirm that they use to nail people to stakes.

There is a history and symbol for the cross and why it was added to the bible, but it wasn't how it really happened.

    1. Are you with the JWs. This is most typical of them to argue this as a means to disqualified the beliefs of Christians. You are leaving out some critical details. Translating also involves the use of context and historical knowledge since some words can be translated multiple ways so your statement cannot be really verified since many types of crosses were used and it leads to useless arguments. What really matters is whether Jesus Christ died on a singular pole or a two beamed cross in the end. The more important matter is the fact the Jesus Christ actually died for our sins, paving the way to our Salvation and reconciliation with God. This is a fact and the message of the gospel. Christ is our hope not the type of cross that he died on.

    3. You are right that this is how Roman crucifixions were originally performed, however, by the time Christ was crucified, they had "perfected" it to make the victim live as long as possible to make them suffer more. When the hands were both up - over the head - the victims would suffocate very quickly. This is why when they needed to hasten death, they would break the legs so that the victims would sag down in a similar manner.

    9. Anonymos, The Roman historian Tacitus records that the city of Rome had a specific place for carrying out executions, situated outside the Esquiline Gate, and had a specific area reserved for the execution of slaves by crucifixion. Upright posts would presumably be fixed permanently in that place, and the crossbeam, with the condemned person perhaps already nailed to it, would then be attached to the post. So yes there would be a stake In some cases, the condemned was forced to carry the crossbeam to the place of execution. The bible says Christ was made to carry his cross which would be the crossbeam.

    10. Cross or stake.. let's not get list in arguing over 'how' he died. The more important factor that we have to agree on is that he died and the reason WHY he died. We have to agree on this. Whether it was a cross or stake doesn't really matter. Just accept the fact that he died for you.

  3. Anonymous,
The Persians use a pole and the Romans adopted this method but through the years use a cross bar to spread out the arms. Many Roman images have been found showing both methods, The Greek word for cross ment cross. Christians claimed the symbol of the cross because Jesus the Massiah (the Christ in Greek) died on a cross. Thinking themselves wise they became fools,

That's why he's God. He didn't come down because he was dying to pay for the sinfulness of man. Your sinfulness. If you would have "taken him down" you would not be saved.

His Father sent His only Son to Death for all of us. Shouldn't we show respect and honor to our Creator Father for this supreme sacrifice. We not longer have to buy baby animals at the church door to be slaughtered as a blood sacrifice. Jesus was that Lamb. It's not just How He died, it's WHY HE DIED....WHY HE CAME BACK....WHY HE STILL LIVES.....BECAUSE GOD LOVES ALL OF US....EVERYONE.

  9. common argument of Jehovah Witness's to deny the saving face of the Cross of Jesus Christ. JWs think the cross is pagan, and that Roman Catholics worship the cross, that they try to distance themselves from it. Well, of course the cross was pagan! Rome was a pagan empire, and they used various different types of crosses to torture people to death. But Jesus triumphed because of the cross, and the Bible tells us that the cross is the power of God unto salvation! Paul said he gloried in the cross of Christ! Jesus told us to pick up our cross daily in order to follow Him! But the JWs seem to stumble over the cross of Christ, deriding it. Alas, their doctrine of what Jesus accomplished by his death is badly affected, and they would try to limit it. It seems they neither understand who it was, dying at Calvary, nor grasp the magnitude of what He achieved. That is why they say that people must pay for their own sins by dying. This violates the achievement of Christ's death to an appalling extent. They are not preaching the truth of the gospel (or good news) of what Jesus did by dying and being resurrected.

  19. In that I appreciate these details, & it makes me praise & thank Jesus even more fervently, I feel led to mention this…. What are the wages of sin? And how many sins did Jesus commit? It wouldn't have mattered if his heart exploded, or head exploded, or entire body exploded…He wouldn't have died! Why? He had NO SIN. Any normal person would have died during the flogging. That is why they flogged him 39 times. Roman law stated if someone lived thru 40 "flogs", they were forgiven of their crime. They fully expected him to die. But once they got to 39, they couldn't take the chance that He would live thru it. This is why the OT says, "He was MORE MARRED than any man". When He was on the cross, death didn't overtake Him. He GAVE UP. I have a very interesting study of this incredible battle strategy that The Father, The Holy Spirit, and The Son put together to rescue us. It shows how the enemy was completely fooled by this strategy,,,and how Sinless Jesus entered into the place of darkness completely covered in sin….but STILL as the LIGHT of the world….and I might add, still with His brilliance of His transfiguration, and arrived in hell, dumped off all the sins, shone as this incredible Light, and left ……taking with Him the keys!…and rescuing us…all at the same time!

  22. All this is probably wat would happen to a person put in this situation but hear is the truth,,,Christianity Came from Paganisim as all religions have.Easter was originally the celebration of Ishtar, The assyrian & Babylonian goddess of fertility & sex. Her symbols (like the egg & the bunny) were & still are fertility & sex symbols . After Constantine decided to Christianize the Empire, Easter was changed to represent Jesus. but at its roots, Easter ( Which is how you pronounce Ishtar) is all about celibrating Fertility & sex. ;) look it up people.

    1. In the Orthodox faith, we don't call it "Easter". It is called "Pascha" or Passover. The resurrection is considered to be the new passover. It falls at a time when Pagans celebrated the spring rite, which is why bunnies and chicks are thrown into the mix on a secular level. What does it matter? For Christians, it represents that there is life after death on a spiritual level.

  23. This was interesting. How many have really thought about all this agonizing that Jesus went through for us. I would pray and hope that more will understand Jesus Christ loves us more and deeper than any human can. I will never understand how people can turn their backs to him or walk away from him. Tears come to my eyes and my heart as I read this and everyday as I think about all that he has done for me. As much as I try I know I could never love him as much as he has loved me. I will continue to love him with all I have, be grateful for everyday that he walks with me and know in my heart that he is what I live for. Let us share his pain and suffering while we also rejoice in his joy and know that he has risen from this horrible death and lives. God Loves You and Me. Let us show he lives by the way we live our lives. Jesus lives in us. Let us not be Hippocrates by just talking about it, but let us do the best we can and walk with Jesus in his shoes. Try to live the life of Jesus and see how far you can go before you ask for God's help. I have to ask daily. God bless you all.

  25. Jesus, P.B.U.H, was crucified, however, he did not die for our sins. This was not his purpose in life. Here is proof. If you go back to the story of Ibrahim, P.B.U.H. When he was having vision and hearing voices from Allah telling him to sacrifice his son, Ibrahim P.B.U.H went to his son Ishmeal, and told him of the visions and voices from Allah. He asked Ishmeal about it, and there was IMMEDIATE obedience. Ishmeal said absolutely. There was no push back, no hesitation what so ever. This is showing how strong the obedience is when it comes to Allah and his will.

So if we look at the story of Jesus, P.B.U.H, when he was condemned to death by crucifixion, if you read the bible, you will see that there was push back from Jesus, P.B.U.H. There was hesitation and questioning of this to Allah. My question to those who believe that Jesus, P.B.U.H, died on the cross for our sins, is why that if this was his goal, if this was what Allah had sent him to do, that being dying for our sins, why was there push back? Why was there hesitation? As we saw with Ibrahim P.B.U.H and his son Ishmeal, there was obedience when Allah said what he wanted. Why was there no obedience with Jesus, P.B.U.H?

I ask those who believe in his death for our sins, to ponder on this thought.

    1. I as a Christian I believe that Jesus was 100% God and 100% human. The 100% human was required for Him to be born and live a life with temptation. The 100% God was required for Jesus to resist temptation and stay sinless. This mixture of pure, sinless, perfection was required to be a sufficient sacrifice to forgive sin. The human part of Jesus can be seen when He is in the garden waiting for Judas to betray Him. Jesus asks that if there were any other way for sin to be forgiven, that He would not have to go to the cross. However much the human part of Him wanted to live, the God part knew that He had to go to the cross to save humanity whom He loves so much. At the end of His prayer Jesus says "Your will be done": knowing that He will go to the cross.

Remember, while he was still 100% divine, he was also 100% man. The scriptures say He emptied himself to become like us. I believe that this means He let go of the ability to use His power outside the Father's will; if He kept full reign, He would not be man, and if He gave it all up, He would not be God. Have you ever asked God to take away all your troubles? To me, it comes down to this. If Jesus had no ulterior motive to go to the cross, why would he willingly and quietly go to such a painful death? He did not want to go through that pain, but He loved everyone enough to do just that.

    7. I pondered your thought, and its the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. Jesus was perfect, never sinned. He was handed over by the sinfulness of man to pay for man's sinfulness. Given that Jesus was both true God and true man, there was no other reason for the Father to send him down as true man: to pay for the sins of the world through death....even the sin you just committed by saying that.

    8. To the one ask i ng for proof of anything Christians believe, I'd like to point out that your beloved science has yet to definitively proof the big bang THEORY also. The historical facts prove that Jesus was real. The u dea that space is nothingness and that somehow nothing in the middle of nothing suddenly decided to explode for no reason and that said explosion SOMEHOW created matter even though none exsisted prior to the explosion? It's idiotic and takes a great deal of faith to believe that. I could be more descriptive with the exact theory behind the big bang as I've researched it extensively, but I don't believe you'd understand it so why bother? I barely understand it myself as it's complete nonsense. So before you try so hard to destroy another's faith, you better check on your own. It takes as much belief in nothing as it does to believe in God. And to the rest of you nay-sayers why does it bother you so much that other people believe in God that you feel obligated to attack them and their faith? Do you do this same thing to Muslims? Or Buddhists? Or what about Hinduism? Scientology? Seriously, this post Christian rebel bullcrap is getting old. If you don't want to believe, thats fine, but don't try to tear down others who do believe. It's not hurting you to leave them alone. I'd focus more on asking yourselves why you feel so driven to attack people with beliefs. My best guess? I'd say you're bitter and that. somewhere along the line you first decided you hated God because of bad experiences then decided to get back at Him by "not believing." That or you were just a rebellious punk growing up who was trying so hard to be different than the rest that you made it your mission in life not to believe. I may be wrong, and I'm man enough to admit I am when it happens, but jumping onto an article about something you supposedly don't believe in and then attacking the beliefs of others for no reason? Sounds awful peculiar when you think about it. Have a great day though to everyone, critics included.
P.S. Please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes, my phone's keyboard hates me.

take it up again,HE died because that was the only way He could demonstrate that HE loved us and that HE conquered death
so that death would be swallowed up in Victory ,in other words He had the last word.,and we are forgiven and rescued from Satan and his domain, if we believe in JESUS as our Saviour and Lord.!!!

We don't go out of our way to prove other beliefs wrong, why do everyone else do the opposite of that to us? Because we do not need anything else but what we have - the TRUTH.

The internet is full of anonymous people trying to put others below them, and yet the irony is that of a savior above us all being publicly debated by those same anonymous tyrants looking to put down others to bring themselves up. Respect others and respect yourself. Christian or not, you hurt those who would hurt you and end up alone. We all die, what matters is our stature in the dying. Is that not what this is about? What were you worth to the rest of us? What was I worth to you? My words are not yours, but our ideas are the same. Don't argue about the scripture or the names. Find common ground in the ideals of religion and either devote or resign yourself to the sacrifices you will make for those around you. Believe in the life you were given as something meant to be lived and give your all so that you may be remembered fondly. Otherwise your life was worthless here.

  38. I do not usually feel the need to comment on blogs, but I will in this case. For the record I am a Catholic, and the cross is a symbol. We do not worship the crucifix. We worship the one who was crucified as all Christians do. The reason we display a crucifix is because you cannot separate Jesus' death from his Resurrection. The Resurrection would not make sense if it was not for his death. The crucifix reminds us every time we look upon it of the ultimate sacrifice of the Christ. It really does not matter if Jesus died on a lower case t cross, an upper case T cross, a stake, etc. Again it is a symbol used by many Churches not a deity. When I pray before a crucifix, I am praying to Jesus not the object. The crucifix is simply used as a tool to focus prayer.

In response to other questions, Jesus being God could have walked off the cross. He could have said "you know what i'm done and you are on your own" but he did not. He died out of love. The argument of Jesus dying to appease the Father is flawed because Jesus is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit. His death and resurrection are the way our God chose to show his love for us and to save us. God Bless you all, and since Easter is a 50 day long celebration, Happy Easter!

  40. a stake is a pole placed in the ground to carry the weight, the vertical beam. the cross is named because of the horizontal beam.
It is a type of the first and second commandment, 1)love YHWH with all...2)love your neighbor as yourself... ie, the vertical relationship of God to man and the horizontal relationship of our fellow man. tis' why He was crucified between two others..don't let just any wind bag blow you off course.

  41. Here is the bottom line.. Christ died FOR our sins, was buried and rose again the third day. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) It is because of that resurrection that when we TRUST not only believe, That we are Justified before God and ALL of our sin/s past, present and future are forgiving. Christ was both Man and God and for that reason He was the perfect and the only sacrifice God could accept for our sin/s. The person who wrote this blog was merely trying to show the pain which Christ went through. Rather he is right or wrong don't really matter. What Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ did does matter.

You might want to retread your bible because Abraham was filled with sorrow at the thought of killing his son he prayed for so many years to have. That's human nature... He didn't just say "ok god, no problem" and Jesus never hesitated, he was human, he prayed for strength. He could have easily said, "I lied I'm not the son of god" and he would've been let free. Instead, he looked in the face of the roman priests and said, "I am the son of god. And you will see me ascend to heaven" he was a man. Weak. He is my lord and savior, holy is Yahweh.

Black weren't in slaves like the media portrays. Bottom line Jesus died on the cross. But the most amazing part is that he rose from the dead. The story of the whipping and beating can be told over and over. People though out time have been punished and tortured but not one of them have risen from the dead. Only Jesus has done this. And as Ripleys says Believe or not but at the end of time every knee shall bend and every tongue will confess

I dont know man, I think I would rather have something to die for. However my faith allows me to live for everything as well.
I used to be an agnostic, now Christian so I know the thought process and how ridiculous religion can sound/seem. Now as a Christian life became easier to bare.

but here's my argument when it comes to agnostics/atheists:

I know that when my time comes, if I have been mistaken and there is no Heaven, no hell, no God then I've lived the good life and lost absolutely nothing.
If my faith is correct then I have lived the good life and have EVERYTHING to gain.

so why not have faith? you've got absolutely nothing to lose. everything to win.

  73. I like that so many people try to say Jesus didn't die on a cross. It very obviously happened that way, as you can tell by a related piece of historical fact: Saint Andrew's cross. The symbol of Scotland (and thereby incorporated into the flag of Great Britain), this X-shaped cross came about when Andrew (one of the twelve apostles), in his ministry, was sentenced to death, and his persecutors wished to crucify him the way they crucified Jesus, but Andrew saw himself as unworthy of dying in the same way as his Lord, so he asked them to change it. There turned the cross over from a + shape to an X shape, and he was crucified like that.

There've been many stories about Jesus' death, but the story of Andrew's death is simply fact. His wish for the altered cross clearly states that Jesus must've been crucified on a cross, either + or T shaped. Whether it was shaped like a plus-sign or a tau doesn't really matter; it's the same thing, just with a different joint location. But history very clearly shows that Jesus did, indeed, die on a cross. And, he did, in fact, die from being on the cross, as this post points out--not by being pierced with a spear. The so-called "Spear of Destiny" WAS involved, but it played a MUCH lesser role than some people believe: after Jesus died, the Roman soldiers took a long spear and poked it into Jesus' side to make sure he was dead. When they pierced him, blood and water poured out. Not even a mix, either, and not blood and plasma, no--it was one stream of pure blood, and one stream of pure water. (John 19:33-37) This was a symbol of his simultaneous utter humanity (blood) and utter divinity (water).

Also, I have to say--it saddens me to see what Jehovah's Witnesses believe in. How can someone read the Bible and be so naive as to believe other than it says? And it's not just Jehovah's Witnesses, either--Catholics, Mormons, etc. They don't take the Bible for its word, thereby displaying disbelief: a lack of faith. And they choose to ignore the fact that the Scripture clearly states, "I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book." (Revelation 22:18-19) Mormons very clearly break this rule with their "book of Mormon," and Catholics have a lot of rules and superstitions and such that have nothing to do with what the Bible says. Really, it saddens me--if you hear something you're unsure of, you should look it up in the Bible!

He had to die on a tree. Whether it was a stake, a cross or a pole with a crossbar on top is of little importance. That he died on a tree for me and anyone who will receive Him is of utmost importance. Because He did, I am free. And he who the Son sets free is free indeed. I received this gift in 1974 and shortly after realized the extent of what He willingly went through for me, who deserved so little. I can't help but love Him and serve Him and speak out. He is my God and my Savior, both my Messiah and my Friend. And He is closer than any brother could ever be. And over forty years later, I'm still on fire. Why? Because He didn't have to... but He did! And I am forever thankful.

  78. You can't convince someone to believe and you can't change a person who has experienced God to believe He's fake. A lot of athiests and non believers have turned to Christ not becos of another person giving a convincing argument but becos God has moved in their heart and shown them a piece of Him. I can't convince an athirst or non believer that God is real. But to me He is more real than you and I. He calms me, He talks to me, He answers me, He guides me, He helps me. If you think its just insanity or me needing to have a reason for existence then fine I don't care what you think. God has shown himself to me in huge way and thats why I believe! My father was raised in an athiest home, never even really thought about if God was a real thing or not till one day at his work when he was 17 years old. He was a groundskeeper for a park and these little kids were playing by a river and one fell in and couldn't swim. My father heard one of the boys screaming so he ran over to find one fell in so he jumped in and for 3 minutes he searched for that little boys body, finally he stopped for a second and prayed to God saying if you show me where this little boys body is I will follow you for the rest of my life God please just let me find his body. In that moment through the trees a burst of sunlight ran over a spot in the river and my dad swam to that spot and u der the water was that little boys body. To this day my father has committed his life to following God and he went to college to be a pastor and has never stopped serving Him and God has never stopped answering and blessing my father through the good and bad times. To my father and to me and a lot of Christians its not about a religion, its about a relationship that we found in God. A lot of the time its not about needing to have order and rules and a higher power. Its about 1 experience with a very real God that changed our worlds. And that experience led to another and another. I don't expect anyone who hasn't felt this overwhelming presence to understand. I just pray that one day you allow him to present Himself to you becos it is awesome and life changing. You will never be the same. Praise the Lord!

Add de-oxygenation and the brain shuts down faster, much like a drowning victim passing out before involuntarily inhaling water and dying from soffication. In all of these accounts of 'crucifixion' and death by ancient torture methods nobody seems to ever take this physiology into account? This is not saying or detracting from the hideous cruelty of death by torture. I'm only stating that the timeline written here, even if by respected academics, is as flawed physiologically as Hollywood Action Adventure Movies. Point being the human body has thresholds in which the brain and central nervous system functions automatically shut down before death occurs. My problem with this type of story is it tends to drive genuinely 'educated' persons away from religion.

  87. Jesus' death on the Cross of Calvary was so excruciatingly painful, that we cannot begin to fathom just how he put up with all that pain and agony. As bad as that was, just imagine how infinitely worse the pain and agony will be if you do not ask Jesus for salvation, which will send your soul to spend eternity in a lake of fire.

    Revelation 20, KJV
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

I would like to tell you about a free gift that is waiting for each and every one of you.
That gift is known as eternal life in heaven. It is very easy to receive this gift of salvation.
To accept it, there are only a few things you need to do that are very, very simple.

    It goes like this: A, B, C:
A: Admit you are a sinner
B: Believe that Jesus died for you
    C: Call on the Lord
Call upon Him (Jesus) to save you from sin.
By simple faith, receive the free gift of salvation that Jesus offers to each individual who will accept it.
John 14:6, KJV says: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Salvation is admitting you are a sinner and receiving a free gift of salvation.
If you would like to ask Jesus to save you right where you are, just repeat this prayer:

    Dear Jesus,
I admit that I am a sinner. I believe you died for me. I call on you right now and ask you to come into my heart and save me, so that I will go to heaven after I die.

In your name, Jesus, I pray,
    Amen

  92. Question pertaining #34
It states Jesus was "bleeding from Scourging, the crown of thorns, the nails in His wrists and feet, and the lacerations following His beatings and falls."

Would his movements on the Cross have injured him in a way not mentioned?
Scraping against the wood surely would have caused even more trauma to existing wounds.

  95. Just a thought.....Jesus did not worship anyone. God was a metaphor he used to explain the unexplainable, and like usual, humans misinterpret it. Human incompetence is at the root of all religion. Buddha did not worship anyone. These people - THEY WERE HUMAN BEINGS JUST LIKE ME AND YOU- SKIN AND ALL - would not have supported mass herds of obsessive followers. They would have encouraged free thinking, not the narrow minded worship of one dead human, they - being humble - ESPECIALLY would have completely hated being that one...... The irony is that the actual essence of these spiritual beings is entirely lost through their resulting religions created by others because religion represents EXACTLY what they desired to tear down - mindless following. Their teachings encouraged those to think for themselves. They did NOT encourage people to read a fictional book (the Bible) and take it as FACT, and create a weird cult-y club (Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism Islam, all the same shit) that runs society. Would you refer to Pet Sematary as a reference your pet? Think about it....

  97. This article is pure crap and 90% of the people on this thread are mislead fools. If Jesus was hung on a T shaped device in this manner, it would have take much longer for him to die, but the scriptures indicate he expired so quickly that his legs didn't require breaking, which was a technique used to quicken the death of those crucified. Those accused of robbery were often tied to the crucifix and, because they could better support their weight with their arms, might survive for several days. One of the most severe methods of crucifixion put the arms straight above the victim, which expedited the asphyxiation, ego the reason we know Jesus was hung on an upright stake or stauros, which is Greek for stake/pole.

  99. Savd4evr, that is not how salvation occurs!! Romans 10:9&10 tell us how. A guilt stricken person will say "I'm sorry!! Please forgive me!" To ANYTHING that will "get them off the hook"...we see this in children and adult children like addicts and also in criminals...their conscience gets to them and they cry out...but without sincerity.....you see?..first of all we MUST be sincerily honest with ourself. Then we must sincerily BELIEVE!! Believe that Jesus IS the son of God, that he died, and God rose him from the dead. And THEN confess those beliefs...yet they can ONLY be sincerely from the heart!!

  101. Greater than the suffering He endured from crucifixion, Jesus bore the wrath of God for sinners, proving that God was just & that every sin would require payment. Complete satisfaction of justice is required. The physical pain could be seen, but the spiritual suffering of Christ, 3 hours on the cross, is where He absorbed the wrath of God for all the sins of all who would ever believe. Those who reject His ample testimony, must bear God's wrath for their crimes against an infinite God & His holy nature - themselves, in a place called Hell. He loved us & He died for us. May we live for Him.

  103. Most that were crucified were not scourged prior to the crucifixion. Jesus endured a scourging which was almost enough to put him in the tomb. Pure exhaustion also played a part in how quickly he died. In the overall scheme of things, it doesn't matter if it was a cross or a pole; he died.

  104. I thought this was very interesting. It does place a new meaning to how he sacrificed himself to save us. However, maybe I'm wrong, but Jesus heart didn't explode. It is time to stop arguing and trying to convince the people making negative comments, or claiming there is no God, because it will never make any sense to those who don't acknowledge God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. 110. Jehovah's Witnesses for a long time have been distorting the Biblical account of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. They believe that Jesus died on a stake rather than a cross. John 20 states that there were nails in his hands(plural) If Jesus was died on a stake there would be one nail not two as the Bible teaches. Perhaps the greatest distortion that the JWs teach is that Jesus was resurrected as a "spirit creature" Again this is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is God incarnate and he died on the cross to redeem us from our sins. On the third day he rose from the dead just like he said he was going to do in John 2. The good news is that we can have our sins forgiven and live forever with God if we believe this and accept the free gift of the grace of Jesus. Eph 2:4-9

You twist the scriptures to support untruths. Where in John 20 does the bible teach TWO NAILS where used? IT DOES NOT!! Nails, in the plural sense the word is used, does not imply two nails where used for his hands. We simply don't know how many were used as the scriptures don't say. Regarding his resurrection, Jesus was indeed raised as a spirit. If you knew what the bible teaches, you would know that it's impossible for Christ to be raised in the "flesh" because his body was essential to complete the ransom sacrifice. Without his body and perfect blood, there was no way to cover what Adam lost in the Garden of Eden, perfect human life! That is why his body was necessary for sacrifice and when he returned on the 3rd day, he returned in spirit but took on various fleshly forms, for his disciples and even Mary did NOT recognize him at first! 1 Pet. 3:18 says “Christ died once for all time concerning sins, a righteous person for unrighteous ones, that he might lead you to God, he being put to death in the flesh, but being made alive in the SPIRIT".

  118. I believe that our Lord Jesus Christ was killrd.I don't believe he just die they killed him. I can't believe how those people chose a criminal over him. After all the good he had already done. He fed the hungry he healed the sick just wanted them to change their ways , but it was his distany to die for them and all their wrong doing as well as for us. If we were to kill someone the way they did we would be killed. We now are so humane that we kill the people that stabbed , killed our child or beat out elderly by injection I don't believe that is justice. Call me weird if you want whole heartedly I feel someone should have been held accountable for what they put him thru. I cry every time I go into a church and see him there on that cross. It makes me angry just to hear about it. I know that it was his distany to be killed for all there wrong doing and even for ours. So we have a chance to change to ask for forgiveness for any wrong doing because it is said he forgives all the time. If he feels you are worthy. I belive in him whole heartedly. He has done so much for me. I thank him everyday for everything he has gave me and for being by my side every time I am sick. May Ou Good Lord Bless us all now in this time of year and for ever.

  119. It amazes me that so many people argue about the minor innuendoes in the story of Christ. Every account is true and false. You can ask 5 people to watch the same incident from different angles and they will have a different version of the incident. Are any wrong? No, they are all right from that viewpoint. It does not matter if you read the Bible, Quran, Book of Mormon, New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, Dianetics or any other scribe. To actually believe that you and your views of your chosen religion has the real truth is simple minded. Expand your minds and stop being Sheeple. Learn about Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism or even Atheism. You will notice something about their beliefs that they all have in common. Each and every one of them is based on human works. Whether it is attaining heavenly rewards, pleasing deities or ancestors, avoiding damnation, being liberated from the cycle of reincarnation, attaining nirvana, or achieving the best society in the here and now, every one of these world religions rely on human works. Moral of the story: While being here on earth in your human form, don't be a jerk to others and your life will be pretty good. I am signing as anonymous because I do not have time to quibble. A religion based on DEATH and the fear of it.
Go into any Christian cathedral and see that its all about death from the grave yard and tombs to the symbols of war, the veneration of local war heroes and military generals and to top it all there's a figure of a man nailed to a cross either dying or dead. 127. It's seems that those who completely rely on science are in for a bigger let down than anyone. Much of science is based on 'theory' and not fact. Science is ever changing, and so are the theories. There's not much in science that has stayed consistent and factual from day one. Historically speaking, there are more accounts written of Jesus' existence than anyone else of that time. More than Caesar, Pilate, even more than Shakespeare.
Fictional characters rarely have such impact thousands of years later. It is FACT, that Jesus existed. This probably why the science worshippers don't believe, since much of their system is based on theory.

This vocalization has been transliterated as "Yehowah",[1] while YHWH itself has been transliterated as "Yahweh".[2]"

  136. Alright then people, instead of saying that it's just fake, why don't you prove to us that it's fake. Don't just tell us to read some random book, quote the author and give us substancial proof that supports your ideas instead of spouting words that have no argument to them. People used to believe that the world was flat and said that it was without. just because you said that it's false with no proof doesn't mean that it is what you say. Modern Christian holidays are unfortunately not the specific dates that real events happened. England and other european countries that were Christianized usually centered around the church. So the church which apparent duty at the time was to keep the country Christanized proclaimed many other non-christian holidays into christian based holidays. Easter used to be a pagan holiday honering the goddess of fertility and sex which was named Ishtar (pronounced Easter) but was changed to our current christian holiday based on the wrong belief that Jesus rose from the dead on easter day. Heck even Christmas' date is wrong. Archeologists say that the real date of Jesus' birth was in June/July not December. Also, if God didn't exist as Atheists say, and evolution was true, there would be no moral compass at all. We would live by what evolution stands for, Extinct others, or be extinct. We would try our best to survive as a race and since we can't live for a long time, it would be reproduction in means of keeping the human beings alive. Then that would mean that men could go around and rape any women they saw and be justified for they are contributing to the suvival of the human race. "Atheists should point out that life without God can be meaningful, moral and happy." (Julian Baggini) is what Atheists say. And honestly speaking, i don't think any Man or Woman would appreciate being forced to rape/being raped at all. Also, people say that there are so many proof that evolution is right. Well then why is evolution still a theory? Cuz there is no proof! Get that into your thick skull. If we ask you why do you believe in evolution, you all say "because people who are smarter than us say that it is true". So why don't you face your hubris and get rid of your own problems before judging other people. The so called "people that are smarter than us" cannot and i say CANNOT prove to the rest of the world that evolution is right so who are you to start saying that evolution is true and perfect while creationism is flawed and false. Also, Evolution is when one species turns into another specie through the proccess of natural selection and it's enviroment not the way people grow extra skin on their foot when walking barefooted. That is called Adaptation not Evolution. There is no proof that Evolution is true so stop screaming at the top of your lungs that it's true when you don't even have proof on such thing.
