Judges 10-11

Insight into Scripture
The practice of maidens going out to greet returning victors with song and dance was common. (11:34)
Tearing one's clothes, was a common form of mourning, that along with placing ashes in the hair. (11:35)

Happy Monday!
I pray that you have had a good Sabbath day. The picture to the left is a modern day Gilead. This could have been close to the site where Jephthah made a vow to YAHWEH asking HIM to give the Ammonites into his hands. This is an interesting story, as the ending of Jephthah's vow ends up in some modern day controversy.

Scripture Reading
Further Disobedience and Oppression
6 The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they forsook the LORD and did not serve him. 7 So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites, 8 and they crushed and oppressed the people of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead. 9 And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed.
10 And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD, saying, "We have sinned against you, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals." - Judges 10:6-10

Thought of the Day
Men and women were created to serve. From the most religious person to the most non-religious person you know, we were all made to serve something.
In your life, have you ever felt restless, kind of an uneasiness as you were searching for something to satisfy the empty feeling inside? Then you find that "Something" you can identify with, you grasp it, and worship it. Your whole day revolves around this one thing. I can.
My soul was searching for something, (It was Christ) but, my earthly desires took over my heavenly desires. I found bodybuilding. I served and worshipped bodybuilding. I ate it, breathed it, slept it, it was always on my mind. As soon as I would wake up, I would be planning out my workout routine, worked all day thinking about it. Then I finally came to the place of worship (The gym) worked out for 3 hours, went home, surfed the net and read magazines about it, finally went to bed thinking about tomorrow's workout. I am sure that some of you can identify with my feelings.
Today, the same is still true, just replace Christ for the bodybuilding. Just as the Israelites HAD to serve something, YOU are or are going too serve something. What is your "Something?" Besides work, schooling, or being a parent, what takes the majority of your time? TV, more work, internet, XBOX, sports, crafts or GOD, Reading the Bible, prayer, devotions, meditations on Christ? What god are you serving?

Closing Prayer
Father thank You for the times of fellowship You share with us. Thank You for all the loving people You place around me on Sundays. I pray Father that I seek You all week and not just on Sunday. I pray that I help others around me to see You and seek You. I thank You and pray for Divine appointments as I go onto the week. I want to feel Your presence wherever I go and pray and give praises to You. Father thank You for the many blessings You give to me everyday, especially those that I do not deserve but You have so graciously given.
I love You and I pray in Your Name,
Amen.

Bible Trivia:
When he was caught disobeying God, Adam blamed.....

Scripture:
Genesis 3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.KJ

Adam acknowledge his transgression; but he shifts the blame from himself, and to the woman.

So here we have the answer to the trivia question as multiple choices given:

d) Eve

Information on the name EVE:
Eve
(Heb. hawwah).
The name occurs only five times in the Bible (# of grace). In Gen.3:20 it is the verb meaning "to live": "And Adam called his wife Eve: because she was the mother of all the living".

Notice I said that the answer would be EVE given the choices given. Re read the scripture Adam not only shifted the blame to Eve but upon GOD.

You see Adam say: Thou (God) gavest. So if God had not given he, Adam would not have sinned.... It was like Adam was thinking that he could make God have pity on him cause He gave him the temptress....

If Adam never realized it or not God did show His Grace cause He could have just spoke them out of existance and started over.

There was another couple God had gave a command to and the woman did not adhere to. This couple was Lot and his wife. They were told not to look back as they were leaving the city and she did not obey and she was turnred into a pillar of salt. Lot unlike Adam though did obey and did not once look back. Now we all know that Lots life after that had some bad turns but here he was not swayed by the woman.

Genesis 3:13- And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Look at the meaning of beguiled:
Beguiled

BEGUI'LED, pp. Deluded; imposed on; misled by craft; eluded by stratagem; passed pleasingly.

She lays the blame straight on the serpent. The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. By the meaning of the word bequiled Eve is saying that the serpant was wiser craftier and more subtle than her. When it really all boils down to this sin was not simply eating an apple, but a love of self, dishonor to God, ingratitude to a benefactor, disobedience to the best of Masters--A PREFERENCE TO THE creature THAN TO THE....Creator.

Poor Adam & Eve, how much itelligience did they need to have obedience to their and our Creator. I don't know bout you but I put that question to myself.

P.S.
So in my thoughts there really needs to be another choice:

God

The other thing about this event, was were was Adam the protector? Did Eve take the first bite with or without Adam?
If Adam was anywhere near her, why did He not stop her?
Whay did Adam not stand up and protect Eve, even though she did eat the fruit, he shifts the blame onto her.... why not stand up and be a man?

Do you know how funny it was to get up this morning and read your post and know that last night I had made some notes along those same lines. I had even book marked a site that asked some or most of those questions. Time is what kept me from going into any of the questions. I am copying a portion of the site that I was just reflecting through to show you how close we were thinking 1000's of miles apart.

Question:
Did God tell Eve about the forbidden fruit directly and personally?
Genesis 2.16 clearly states that God commanded the MAN (Adam) not to eat the fruit, and warned him that eating the fruit would cause death.

From Eve's conversation with the serpent (Gen 3.1-5), it is clear that Eve was quite aware of God's command.

************God has made husbands responsible to be the spiritual leaders of their families, and to protect them, even if the husband must die in so doing (Eph 5.22-24).
Accordingly, it was Adam's responsibility to both warn and defend his wife from eating of the forbidden fruit. He may have done the former, but he very definitely did not do the latter.

Question:
Adam could have refused to eat when Eve passed him the fruit since he knew the importance of God's order, right? Or did Adam eat because he ************
loved Eve very much and decided to die with her?
Genesis 3.6 states that Adam was THERE with Eve when she ate the fruit.

a LOVING husband would have protected his wife from both the temptation to sin, and from doing the sinful act itself. But Adam did not do either.
Perhaps (just perhaps) Adam loved his own selfish desires more than he loved his wife.
Perhaps (just perhaps) Adam waited to see if his wife would drop dead before risking his own life. And, when she didn't drop dead, he ate the fruit himself.

In the final analysis, the Bible does NOT describe Adam's motives so -- draw your own conclusions.

Please take note that the final statement above is not my statement but that of the site....
