1 Samuel 17-18

Holy Week
Blessings~
This week I thought that we would honor Christ and prepare our hearts and minds for Resurrection Sunday. We will break away from our walk through the Bible, and follow Christ on His walk leading to the Cross.I would encourage you to keep walking through the Bible. We will leave the passage for today's Scripture on top.

Blessings~This is a picture of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. It commemorates the hill of crucifixion and the tomb of Christ's burial. On grounds of tradition alone, this church is the best candidate for the location of these events. The Garden Tomb came later as a possible burial place. Thursday Night & Friday
~Jesus' Arrest and Trial - Matthew 26:47-27:26

Friday
~Jesus' Crucifixion and Death17 and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called the place of a skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. 19 Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews." 20 Many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek. 21 So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but rather, 'This man said, I am King of the Jews.'" 22 Pilate answered, "What I have written I have written."
23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom, 24 so they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be." This was to fulfill the Scripture which says,

"They divided my garments among them,
and for my clothing they cast lots.

"So the soldiers did these things, 25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son!" 27 Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

The Death of Jesus
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), "I thirst." 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. - John 19:17-30

~The Burial of Jesus - Matthew 27:57-66

Thought for the Day
Such a bitter sweet day. On one hand, we gentiles were grafted into YAHWEH's inheritance. We became adopted into HIS chosen. We received eternal life, the veil that separated YAWHEH from us was torn in half. Direct access to HIM through the new Temple; Jesus Christ.
On the other hand, my best Friend died this horrible death. Not only did He feel the physical pain, He took the anguish of ALL our sins on Himself. If you are reading this alone, take a moment, close your eyes and just reflect. If you are not alone, I would encourage you today to find a quiet spot and reflect.

Closing Prayer
Dear Jesus
Thank You Father for this time to reflect. I weep when I think of the pain and terror You went through, just for me. Thank You for loving me so much! Father I pray that I can find some quiet time and that I will feel that deep deep love that You have for me, I pray that I can reflect on You and draw even closer. Father hold my hand at this time as my fears for You are there and I realize how brave You are and how small I am.
I love You.
In Your Name,
Amen

Bible Trivia
What was cursed by God because of Adam?
Hint: Genesis 3:6, 22-24

    Bible Trivia
What was cursed by God because of Adam?

    ....LAND....vs 17:Cursed is the ground because of you;

    My further thoughts:

    ---MAN----physical being was also cursed.

I will include the fact that
    ...WOMAN....
also had a curse placed upon her.

    LAND MADE HARD TO TILL:

    Genesis 3:
    17-19. unto Adam he said--
made to gain his livelihood by tilling the ground; but
before his fall he did with ease and pleasure, was not to be accomplished after without painful and persevering exertion.

    Mans Punishment/Curse

    Genesis 3:23
Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden…
God ordered Adam to leave the garden immediately, God put or sent him away like is done by man when he divorces his wife; or even what a prince does when he banishes a rebellious subject.

    19. ...till thou return unto the ground--
Man became mortal; although he did not die the moment he ate the forbidden fruit, his body changed, and began to die

I see the GRACE OF GOD shown here for the first time, He did not send him to hell at once, as He did the apostate angels. He was allowed to stay and to till the ground, from which he was created, and to which he must return, and will labour hard, in digging and ploughing, in planting and sowing, that so he might get a livelihood. Until the sin ALL was provided for man without work.

GOD also performed the first sacrifice for man at this time when He sacrificed an animal to use its skin to cloth them.

    WOMANS PUNISHMENT/CURSE

    16. unto the woman he said,I will greatly multiply thy sorrow--
She was doomed as a wife and mother to suffer pain of body at child birth and she would be under subjection to her husband.

    19. ...till thou return unto the ground--
    Man became mortal; although he did not die the moment he ate the forbidden fruit, his body changed, and began to die; the union that existed between his soul and God was no longer, he had become liable to all the miseries of this life and to the pains of hell for ever. This chapter is such a sad epitat to the history of man! It gives the only true account of the origin of all the physical and moral evils that are in the world; and upholds the perfect and just character of God;

I will include one last that was cursed. It is found in vs. 14:
    .....serpent....
