2 Samuel 19-20

Insight Into Scripture

As you have been reading, have you noticed a change in the tempo of David's life? It seemed like he and YAHWEH were unstoppable, then David sinned and it seems like he has been struggling ever since.
Neglect of personal appearance accompanied by mourning. (19:24)In verse 20:3 the Bible tells how David locks up his 10 concubines, at first it seems cruel, but after further reading they could no longer serve David, as Absalom sexually used them. David maintained his obligation to them, but they could never have children for him.

This is a picture of the City of David. The Temple Mount, which is today crowned with the gold-domed, Dome of the Rock. It is almost dead center in the city. To see more pictures of the city, click on the picture. In the city they have excavated 4 toilets, you will see the toilet towards the bottom of the page. The photo is taken from Bibleplaces.com

Scripture Reading
18 and they crossed the ford to bring over the king's household and to do his pleasure. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was about to cross the Jordan, 19 and said to the king, "Let not my lord hold me guilty or remember how your servant did wrong on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem. Do not let the king take it to heart. 20 For your servant knows that I have sinned. Therefore, behold, I have come this day, the first of all the house of Joseph to come down to meet my lord the king." 21 Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, "Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?"

Thought for the Day
What are you like after you have had a REALLY bad day at work? Are you full of sunshine? Or maybe you had a REALLY bad day with the kids and you are at your wits end. Are you the most understanding person? Or maybe your day at school was the WORST, problem after problem. Are you ready to converse with others?
King David just had a couple of those days, possibly weeks. He was chased out of his kingdom by his son, left everything, his son took his place as king. Then after mustering his men to fight for his kingdom, he gave them special instructions not to touch his son, which they ignored. THEN to make matters worse, he was corrected by Joab for his mourning. As he returns to Jerusalem he is confronted by 3 people. Shimei who betrayed him, Mephibosheth; Saul's grandson, and Barzillai. How would you react?
David reacts with mercy and generosity. If anyone had the right to be grumpy, it would have been David. I think I might have said, off with Shimei's head, and do not bug me right now! This kind of inter peace only comes from a life if Christ. David displays a shining example to us all.
Do you have that kind of inner peace, where no matter what goes wrong, you display the traits of Jesus?

Closing Prayer
Dear Jesus
Thank You Lord for your peace and mercy. I pray today that I can have that inner peace that You have Father. I pray that I can feel that peace and inner quietness as I go through my day and the peacefulness tends to go away. I pray Father that You will fill in that void with Your love and peace so that I can display Your love to others.
I love You and I pray in Your Great Name,
Amen.

  1. I just thought I would share one of those little things that comes across the internet. This one did come to me by way of a very dear friend of mine.

"Sit Down Shut Up and Quit Trippin"

Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God."

So many times we make situations more than they are due to our anxiety,

CALM DOWN! God has your life under control; He knows how to handle even the seemingly complex situation with ease.

SHUT UP ! Stop having pity parties and talking about your business all
the time; don't you know that the power of death and life is in the
    tongue!

Stop speaking negative things into existence in your life and in
    others.

    QUIT TRIPPIN'! When you look at your situations through your eyes, you often read more into the situation than what is there. It's not as bad as you think particularly if God is in your life;

    Stop over analyzing your life.

    Be courageous

2 Timothy 1:7 - "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of
power, and of Love, and of a sound mind. Fear is not of God.

Have the courage to step out on faith and do the seemingly impossible. Start your own business; go into the ministry; apply for that promotion; anything
that you've been afraid to do and you know that God has called you to do

    - JUST DO IT!

    Have confidence

Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."

Remember, greater is He that's within you than he that's in the
world. You have the power of the most High God working in you, and you have His Son steadily making intercession for you. You have nothing to worry about! Walk with your head up!

    You say you have low self-esteem;
somebody told you that you'd never amount to anything; the devil is a
liar! Know that you are somebody not because Jesus said it, but because-

YOU are a child of The King!

    Walk in the VICTORY !

Romans 8:28 - "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His
    purpose."

Does anything else need to be said? The jury has been out and
    the verdict is in -

    YOU WIN!

In your finances - YOU WIN!

On your job - YOU WIN!

In your relationships (married, single, divorced, family, friends) -
    YOU WIN!!

In your health - YOU WIN!

God has already worked it out for you. It may not come the way you think it should come (or when you think it should), but remember -

    CALM DOWN,

    SHUT UP,

    AND QUIT TRIPPIN'!

He's working it out for "YOUR" good (in His time).

Do not ask the Lord to guide your footsteps, if you are not willing to move your feet.

    Be Blessed TODAY !!

    ONE LAST THOUGHT

"Man can live for about forty days without food,

    three days without water, and

    eight minutes without air...

    but only one second without

    "HOPE."

  2. Bible Trivia:
How many demons were cast out of Mary Magdalene?

    ANSWER: 7 seven

    Luke 8:2
    2) and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom SEVEN demons had come out;

    2. And certain women. For these women to attend the footsteps of Christ was against the custom. The mixing of the sexes was not common. The rabbis held strong that the law should not be taught to women. Mary that was called Magdalene, this is letting it be known that she came from Magdala, a village near the Sea of Galilee. This is the first mention of her and we know nothing of her before. We know that after this she was most devoted to Jesus.
