2 Samuel 6-9

Insight Into Scripture

David put the Ark on a new cart (6:3) to transport it back home, but YAHWEH gave instructions that the Ark was to be carried by Priests using poles to carry it. This might explain the death of Uzzah's death by touching it. (6:7) The Ark is viewed as an object requiring respect and caution. The very nature of it made it dangerous.

Moab was one of the areas that YAHWEH gave King David victory over. King David dedicated all the articles of plunder to YAHWEH. (8:11)Moab is also the land where Ruth lived. She married one of the sons of Elimelech and Naomi, before following her mother-in-law to Bethlehem. Click on the photograph to see more pictures of Edom and Moab. Scripture Reading
16 As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart.
20 And David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, "How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants' female servants, as one of the vulgar fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!"
21 And David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the LORD--and I will make merry before the LORD. 22 I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your eyes. But by the female servants of whom you have spoken, by them I shall be held in honor."
23 And Michal the the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death. - 2 Samuel 6:16, 20-23 ESV

Thought for the Day
King David was a fool for YAHWEH. But, before we talk about King David's foolishness I wanted to point out a statement that was mentioned twice, so YAHWEH wants you to understand it. "The LORD gave David victory wherever he went." (8:6, 14) King David served YAHWEH with all his heart and YAHWEH honored him for it.
David had a very personal relationship with YAHWEH, he lived his life before the eyes of The LORD. Human opinions did not matter. In fact he told Michal, if you think this was foolish, you have not seen anything yet I am going to be even more foolish for YAHWEH.
Notice how YAHWEH dealt with Michal? When she died she was still childless. YAHWEH did not make a big spectacle of the situation, HE cursed her privately. I wonder if she ever made the connection of her being barren, with the anger in her heart towards King David?
I hope that this story of David and Michal encourages you. Be a fool..... a fool for Christ! Let it go, let nothing stand in your way! The next time someone says "Are you going to church again?" or "Don't you think it is foolish to carry that Book around with you all the time?" You can respond as King David. Answer, "Nope, it is not, and you have not seen foolish yet!!" Maybe you can roll your eyes and wiggle your ears to make them really wonder. :)

Closing Prayer
Dear Jesus
Go Yahweh! You are awesome and I am so happy I have gotten to know You! I pray that I can dig deeper and learn more about You and be crazy foolish for You. I pray that people will say, " hey what's up with you?"
I love You Father and I am in Your Grip,
Amen.

2 Samuel 6:7- Smote him dead there for his error:
Uzzah sin was not intentional it was not even meant to be sinnful it happendand on an IMPULSE. He did not have time to reflect, the oxen suddenly stumbled, and, fearing the ark falling to the ground, he impulsively reacted and stretched out his hand to prevent it. Had he touched the ark and not died, the people might have lost their respect for the Ark and its sacredness, this surely filled them with fear and reverence and, as to Uzzah, no man can doubt Number 4:15 he committed a sin unto death and no intention of being irreverence.

I have never looked quiet this close at this story before. It shows that even things done with our good intentions but if not of God's will or command God has to be true to His Word.

Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. His intention was good and seemed right in his heart, even with it being impulsive. Then the word of the LORD had to come against Uzzah, and he was struck dead there by the ark of God. (Numbers 4:15)

Listing some thoughts that this has crossed my mind reading and searching this:

*Uzzah decision made in a moment and do what seemed right to him brought death to him. Let us not think that even our decisions made in a moment don't matter before God. He is the same today as yesterday.

*David wanted Israel to know the awesomeness of the God. God showed up but not in the way anyone wanted. Is that not so how we are still today, we want God but we also want to tell Him how we want Him, if what He is doing we don't like.

*the error of Uzzah was more than just a impulsive action, it was that he did not keep Gods words continually before him.

MAYBE UZZAH THOUGHT:
a) It didn't matter WHO carried the ark, but it did matter that Gods orders be followed at all cost. He is God we know!

b) it didn't matter HOW the ark was transported

c) he KNEW all about the ark because it was in his father's house for so long. Do we ever get careless becuse we get to familiar or comfortable in our RELATIONSHIP to God?

d) that God couldn't take care of the ark of Himself. This thought when it came I thought how often I thought I was helping God, when what I was really doing was in His way. Or trying to make something come out the was I wanted it to and trying to say it was God's will. LOL.

I love the above thought and the one below, they seem to almost go together. Not only do we try to help God, but what does this say about our TRUST in Him? If God does not intend for the Ark to be touched where was the trust that if it was not meant for it to fall that He would take care of it. Why would Uzza

e) that the ground of Nachon's threshing floor was less holy than his own hand.

His intention to help was right enough, he shows that he truly had not gotten it. He still did not realize the awesome sacredness of the ark, and that there was no deveating by GOD and His commands. Even the Levitical bearers were forbidden to lay hands.

Studying this in this light really brings me back to the realization that all of God's command we should keep before us and treat with all reference and His Love and Power will always prevail for us....

Well said about Uzzah. That is why after Uzzah died, David was kinda put out.
