Is Your Church Divided?

1 Corinthians 1:10:12, 3:1-3, 7
"I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers, some from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas"; still another, "I follow Christ."Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow."

Thought for the Day
In the first part of Corinthians, Paul addresses the divisions that had come up in the church. On a side note don't you find it interesting that the church back then faced the same problems that we face today. Is that because we never learn, or we are a stiff necked people?

This weekend would be a good time to examine this topic. How would you evaluate your church, do you progress as one or do you "Have divisions" among you? My guess would be that every church has some issues.

Paul addresses this by pointing out that Christ is one body and not many, we make up the body of Christ, so we can't be divided. Paul even goes as far as addressing us; no better than the people that do not attend church. After all what kind of a example do we set by criticizing and tearing each other down? Then Paul reminds us that it is not us that make "Godly" things happen, it is God, and we are fortunate that God allows us to be in His amazing plans.

So, how is your church? I would hope that we are not the ones causing "Divisions" in our church, even if we are not the ones fueling the fire, are we doing anything to stop it? If a person is gossiping, do we listen, or tell that person "This is gossip and it is wrong". This weekend I would encourage you to evaluate you and your church.
