2 Corinthians 1:9, 4:8-9, 4:16-18 NIV
"Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead."
"We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed."
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
Thought for the Day
Our family in the last two years has gone through some very unsure and scary times. Knowing what I know today, if you were to ask me, before all this started, are you going to make it? I would have to have said "No, there is no way we are going to make it financially or mentally." But, we did. Only through the grace, guidance, and love of Christ Jesus did we make it.
Kim and I were at church last Sunday and were talking to a friend of ours, we made a comment that it would be nice if we got a break, just a little one, so we did not have to worry about money, sickness, or work. Our friend replied "God likes to keep us just on the edge, where all our needs are met, but in such a way that we need to depend on him." What great insight, and how true.
I thought about that for awhile, every time when things are going very good for us, it seems like I feel God is far away, I do not pray as much and do not spend as much time with Him. But, when we are in need and stressed out, we are on our knees all the time and God seems very close. So, does that mean if we maintain that close relationship with Him, "Life" will become smoother??? I do not know.
The verses above are a great reminder to us that our reward is in heaven. We are just visitors here on Earth, and these feeble bodies of ours are just tents that hold our soul. Only when we go home will our bodies be whole. I would encourage you to read 2 Corinthians 4:16 - 5:10. We need to be reminded of our reward, this is what we are fighting for and struggling for here on earth.
