"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:"I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.""Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord.Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.""I will be a Father to you,and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."
Thought for the Day
These are some pretty strong words from Paul. Is he suggesting that we do not have relationships with unbelieving friends? In 1 Corinthians 5:9-10 Paul tells us not to isolate one's self from non believers. Paul even goes as far to tell us that we should stay married to our unbelieving spouses in 1 Corinthians 7:12-13. So what is Paul saying?
I believe that you do need relationships with unbelievers and I do know that we need the support from our Christians brothers and sisters. Where I believe that it becomes wrong is if you are not strong enough to say "No" to your friends when they want to do something that goes against your Christian beliefs. It is hard because our values are not of this world and our friend's values may be of this world. I would pray that your values are not conforming to what the world wants, impress your friends and they will want what you have, thus turning an unbelieving to a believing friend. Do not to forget to pray for our friends on a daily basis too.
