Galatians 5:17-22
For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
Thought for the Day
The passage is another good passage to memorize. It will be a passage of scripture that you will use over and over again. We all have these evil desires, we are born with them. And even though there are the obvious ones, like sexual immorality, and sorcery, I would imagine that we all struggle with the less obvious ones, like jealousy, anger, and disputes.
Even though we are in Christ and a new creation, we will fight these desires until we are home. As we become more like Christ we take on His Spirit's traits which are listed in 5:22-23. We must die each day to these evil desires, as it says in verse 24, they have been crucified, we are risen with Christ with new desires.
There is no way that we can take on these Christ like traits on our own. We need the Holy Spirit to fill us up on a daily basis. So are you getting your Holy Spirit charge in the morning? I hope that you are finding time to spend with Christ each morning. With that time you need to ask the Holy Spirit to fill you up with these Christ traits and ask strength in dying to the evil traits. I have done this for some time now, and I can't tell you the difference it has made in my Day.
